Audemars Piguet has introduced the [RE]Master02, a modern interpretation of the iconic Model 5159BA from 1960. The limited-edition watch combines the elegance of vintage design with contemporary watchmaking technology, reflecting the brand's commitment to craftsmanship and innovation.

Design & Case

The [RE]Master02 boasts a distinctive 41mm rectangular case crafted from Audemars Piguet's exclusive Sand Gold. This 18-carat gold alloy exhibits a unique hue varying between white and pink gold depending on the light. The alloy, introduced earlier in the year on a Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Openworked model, combines gold, copper, and palladium to achieve its dynamic appearance.

The visually striking asymmetrical design is ergonomically crafted to sit comfortably on the wrist. The integrated lugs and the slope towards the crown create a seamless flow, contributing to the overall aesthetic appeal of the timepiece. The caseback, featuring a sapphire crystal, offers a clear view of the intricate movement within, with "Limited Edition" engraved to highlight the exclusivity of the watch.

Dial

The dial of the [RE]Master02 is a marvel of modern craftsmanship, combining traditional techniques with contemporary design. It features a "Bleu Nuit, Nuage 50" color, a deep midnight blue achieved through a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) process.

The dial is divided into twelve individually machined brass triangles, each with a linear satin finish that creates striking reflections and a captivating play of light. These triangles are separated by sand gold partitions, facilitating easy reading of the time and adding to the geometric harmony of the design.

The minimalist design forgoes hour markers, allowing the Audemars Piguet logo, applied in relief through a galvanic growth process, to take center stage. The thin sand gold hour and minute hands glide elegantly over the dial, enhancing the watch's sophisticated appearance. Notably, the case features discreet cut-outs at 12, 6, and 9 o'clock, allowing the minute hand to pass underneath, a subtle yet intricate detail that showcases Audemars Piguet's dedication to precision and aesthetic elegance.

Movement

Powering the [RE]Master02 is the Audemars Piguet Calibre 7129, an ultra-thin self-winding movement derived from the Calibre 7121 used in the Royal Oak Jumbo models. This movement, designed without a date mechanism, measures just 2.8mm in thickness, allowing for the slim profile of the watch. The Calibre 7129 operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and offers a power reserve of 52 hours.

The movement is visible through the sapphire caseback, revealing the meticulous finishing and decoration that Audemars Piguet is known for. The variable inertia balance wheel, held under a transversal bridge, contributes to the movement's stability and accuracy.

The open-worked rotor, made of 22-carat gold and plated with sand gold, features asymmetrical cut-outs that match the overall design language of the watch. As a signal of the brand's commitment to horological excellence, the movement is adorned with Geneva stripes, snailing, sunray brushing, circular graining, and polished angles.
