The AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport is a special edition race car created to commemorate the 130th anniversary of Mercedes-Benz motorsport. This limited-edition model was announced at Pebble Beach and is the most powerful GT3 ever built in AMG's Affalterbach headquarters.

Inspired by the 1952 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL W 194 race car, the 130Y edition features unique design elements, including exclusive livery and interior detailing that pay homage to Mercedes-Benz's rich racing history.

This race car celebrates Mercedes-AMG's commitment to excellence in motorsport, blending cutting-edge technology with a storied heritage. The AMG GT3 130Y is expected to be a highly sought-after model among collectors and racing enthusiasts, not just for its performance on the track but also for its symbolic significance in celebrating a milestone.

Design and Aesthetics

The AMG GT3 130Y doesn't have any surprises. It has the typical aggressive look that current AMG GT3 cars have. However, the car features a special livery with the iconic silver color synonymous with Mercedes-Benz racing cars and blue accents.

The aerodynamics have been finely tuned to enhance performance, focusing on maximizing downforce (15% increase compared to the standard GT3) and minimizing drag. Every element of the car's exterior, from the front splitter to the large rear wing, is designed to improve its racing capabilities.

Also present is a DRS system borrowed from Formula 1 and DTM Class 1. This allows the activation of drag reduction by pushing a button on the steering wheel. The DRS system helped increase the top speed of the car.

Performance and Engineering

Under the hood, the AMG GT3 130Y retains the naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V8 engine that has been the heart of the GT3's success. This engine is known for delivering robust power and a thrilling driving experience. It is paired with a sequential six-speed competition transmission.

The car delivers 671hp at 7,250rpm, 538 lb-ft of torque at 5,250rpm, and a top speed of 196mph. Since the car is non-homologated, AMG was able to break some rules. The AMG GT3 130Y features advanced racing technology, including a sophisticated braking system with carbon brake discs instead of steel discs. This provides excellent stopping power, even under the most intense racing conditions.

The car's chassis has been engineered to deliver exceptional handling and stability, allowing drivers to confidently push the limits of performance. To emphasize its capability, Mercedes mentioned that a prototype version of the car set the fastest lap time at Australia's Mount Panorama Circuit while being driven by AMG Performance Driver Jules Gounon.

Interior

Inside, the AMG GT3 130Y is all about function and performance. The cockpit has the typical GT3 look. The interior is stripped down to the essentials, with a lightweight, mostly carbon fiber racing seat, a digital display providing critical information, a steel roll cage, and a carbon fiber safety cell.

However, what stands out is the blue checkered fabric upholstery on the seat. It looks a little out of place for a race car. Another odd part of the interior is the brown walnut wood grips around the racing wheel handles and the matching brown leather headrests on the seat.

These oddities were inspired by the 1955 Mercedes-Benz SLR 300 models driven by Juan Manuel Fangio. Regardless of a few odd accents, even for a special edition car, the AMG GT3 130Y puts the 'L' in limited edition. Only 13 units will be built with a price of EUR 1,030,000.00 each.
